During his residency at AiR Green, Sahr will work on a project focused on heritage, family, and craft traditions. In this project, Sahr will create textile sculptures based on a collection of lace doilies he inherited from his grandparents. The shape of the sculptures will be informed by Sahr’s reflections on inheritance, heirlooms, family roles, and his identity as a queer man.
Biography
Aleksander Sahr (b. 1993) is a Norwegian artist from Kvinnherad, currently living and working in Oslo. Sahr holds a Master’s degree in Aesthetic Studies from OsloMet and a Bachelor’s degree in Clothing and Costume Design from the Oslo National Academy of the Arts. His academic interest in clothing, social codes, and fashion drives his artistic practice. Sahr’s expression resides in the space between craft and visual art and is characterized by contrasts in both materiality and symbolism. His works are often allegorical; that is, Sahr uses fashion aesthetics and references to clothing and dressing as a visual language to depict immaterial and abstract concepts in a bodily way.
